A portrait used in the production of James Watkins’ 2012 horror-drama, The Woman In Black. The film follows a young lawyer, Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe) as he travels to a remote village terrorised by a vengeful ghost. Kipps finds himself in a race against time to discover the mystery of the spectre woman before she takes all the children of Crythin Gifford.
This painting of Samuel Daily (Ciarán Hinds) was created for use in the Daily house, although is not clearly seen in the final cut of the film. The portrait shows Sam standing in a hand-on-hip position surrounded by an outdoor landscape. The image is hand-painted on canvas and mounted to a wooden board. The edges are unfinished as they would have been covered by a frame which is not included. There is a textured finish to the paint due to the brush stroke. This portrait remains in excellent condition and measures 92cm x 74cm x 1cm (36.25” x 29.25” x 0.5”).
