A painting used in the production of James Watkins’ 2012 horror-drama, The Woman In Black. The film follows a young lawyer, Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe) as he travels to a remote village terrorised by a vengeful ghost. Kipps finds himself in a race against time to discover the mystery of the spectre woman before she takes all the children of Crythin Gifford.
This portrait would have been hung in the dining room of the Daily house when Arthur sits down to dinner with Samuel (Ciarán Hinds) and Elizabeth Daily (Janet McTeer). The painting features Nicholas (Sidney Johnston) holding a stick and hoop, for hoop rolling, outside an estate with an angel flying above him. The image is hand-painted with acrylics on canvas, stretched and stapled on to a wooden frame. There is a textured finish to the paint due to the brush stroke. This portrait remains in excellent production-used condition and measures 76cm x 64cm x 2.5cm (30” x 25.25” x 1”).
