A painting used in the production of James Watkins’ 2012 horror-drama, The Woman in Black. The film follows a young lawyer, Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe) as he travels to a remote village terrorised by a vengeful ghost. Kipps finds himself in a race against time to discover the mystery of the spectre woman before she takes all the children of Crythin Gifford.
This portrait was used as set dressing when Arthur Kipps climbs the entrance hall stairs of Eel Marsh House throughout the film. The portrait shows Alice Drablow (Alisa Khazanova) wearing a black dress with Nathaniel (Ashley Foster) stood beside her wearing a black suit. The image is hand-painted on canvas and mounted to a MDF board. There is a textured finish to the paint due to the brush stroke. The portrait is presented in an ornate, gold-painted plaster frame. On the reverse is a metal chain and hooks to hang the frame on the wall. The frame suffered significant wear from use and time spent in storage, however the portrait remains in good production-used condition measuring 122cm x 100cm x 10cm (48” x 39.5” x 4”).
