A gravestone used in the production of James Watkins’ 2012 horror-drama, The Woman In Black. The film follows a young lawyer, Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe) as he travels to a remote village terrorised by a vengeful ghost. Kipps finds himself in a race against time to discover the mystery of the spectre woman before she takes all the children of Crythin Gifford.
This gravestone would have been used to mark Nathaniel Drablow’s (Ashley Foster) grave in a private family cemetery on Eel Marsh House’s grounds. The gravestone is made up of an angel holding a cross and pointing towards the heavens standing on a plinth that is engraved with Nathaniel’s memorial message. The line ‘Beloved Son of Alice & Charles Drablow’ has been scratched out. The angel is cast from biscuit foam, painted and distressed with moss and mouldings to look aged and weathered. The base is made from wood that has been painted and distressed to match the angel. Additional distressing has also been applied for use in The Woman In Black 2: Angel Of Death. There are minor chips and cracks from use in production however the piece remains in very good condition. The gravestone as a whole measures approximately 68cm x 59cm x 210cm (26.75” x 23.25” x 82.75”).
