Two gravestones used in the production of James Watkins’ 2012 horror-drama, The Woman In Black. The film follows a young lawyer, Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe) as he travels to a remote village terrorised by a vengeful ghost. Kipps finds himself in a race against time to discover the mystery of the spectre woman before she takes all the children of Crythin Gifford.
These gravestones would have been used in Crythin Gifford Cemetery to mark Martha Tenterton’s and Christina Skellet’s graves. Ultimately these graves were not clearly seen in the final cut of the film. The set consists of two headstones, one adult and one child. They are made from wood which has been decorated with resin floral motifs. The collection has been painted and distressed with moss and mould to create an aged and weathered finish. Chipped and worn, with some lettering missing, from use in production, these graves remain in good used condition with the largest measuring approximately 73cm x 8cm x 126cm (28.75” x 3.25”x 49.75”).
