A gravestone used in the production of James Watkins’ 2012 horror-drama, The Woman In Black. The film follows a young lawyer, Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe) as he travels to a remote village terrorised by a vengeful ghost. Kipps finds himself in a race against time to discover the mystery of the spectre woman before she takes all the children of Crythin Gifford.
This gravestone would have been used to mark Jennet Humfrye’s (Liz White) grave in a private family cemetery on Eel Marsh House’s grounds. The headstone is made up of a cross entwined with ivy, supported on a staggered step base engraved with Jennet’s memorial message. The cross is made from wood, painted and distressed with moss and mouldings to look aged and weathered. The ivy is cast from foam and has metal armatures for added stability. Additional distressing has also been applied for use in The Woman In Black 2: Angel Of Death. There are minor chips and cracks from use in production however the piece remains in very good condition. The grave as a whole measures approximately 109cm x 51cm x 158cm (43”x 20” x 62.25”).
