A gravestone used in the production of James Watkins’ 2012 horror-drama, The Woman In Black. The film follows a young lawyer, Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe) as he travels to a remote village terrorised by a vengeful ghost. Kipps finds himself in a race against time to discover the mystery of the spectre woman before she takes all the children of Crythin Gifford.
This gravestone would have been used in Crythin Gifford Cemetery to mark Cynthia Fisher’s grave. Cynthia was one of the Fisher sisters from the beginning of the film that becomes a victim to the curse of the Woman in Black (Liz White). Ultimately this grave was not clearly seen in the final cut of the film. The gravestone consists of three separate components: the headstone, foot stone and edging. It is constructed using wood and resin decorations including a bird carving and roses on the headstone. The collection has been painted and distressed with moss and mould to create an aged and weathered finish. Chipped and worn from use in production, this grave remains in good used condition with the largest component measuring approximately 60cm x 28cm x 110cm (23.75” x 11” x 43.5”).
