A binder of rarely-seen paperwork from the production of Barry Sonnenfeld's Wild Wild West. In the film-an adaptation of Michael Garrison's classic series The Wild Wild West-civil war hero Captain James West (Will Smith) and U.S. Marshal Artemus Gordon (Kevin Kline) teamed up to stop maniacal inventor Dr. Arliss Loveless (Kenneth Branagh) from taking over the United States with his mechanical creations.
Produced by legendary Hollywood filmmaker Jon Peters, Wild Wild West culminated in a battle where Loveless transformed into a giant mechanical spider in keeping with the film's steampunk aesthetic. According to writer-director Kevin Smith, who worked with the super-producer on Tim Burton's unproduced Superman Lives, the spider was a recurrent concern of Peters' and was at one time suggested for inclusion in Smith's Superman Lives screenplay.
This three-ring vinyl binder contains 193 pages-including a 125-page script dated "May 14, 1998" featuring the spider battle and nine additional loose script pages-divided between labeled paper inserts. The paperwork includes details such as contact details for Smith, Kline, and Branagh's representatives, correspondences between the production and studio regarding the cast and budget, and notes regarding the film's soundtrack.
