Original concept artwork by Renato Fratini created for the 1961 British crime drama Whistle Down the Wind. This lot comes from the personal collection of Brian Bysouth. Directed by Bryan Forbes and featuring a breakthrough performance by Hayley Mills, the film follows Kathy Bostock (Mills) and her younger siblings, who discover a mysterious fugitive (Alan Bates) hiding in their family barn and come to believe he may be Jesus Christ. The film is widely regarded as a notable example of early-1960s British cinema. The artwork is executed in gouache on illustration board and is overlaid with a black paper border, which frames the composition and a protective vellum sheet. The reverse of the board bears the handwritten inscription "Hayley Mills, Whistle Down the Wind, from the collection of Brian Bysouth" in blue ink. There is a small tear on the right edge of the paper border and minor creasing on the vellum layer.
