Rorschach's stunt costume from Zack Snyder's Watchmen. Walter Kovacs (Jackie Earle Haley) wore his superhero Rorschach costume throughout the film as he investigated the death of Edward Blake (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), a fellow superhero known as The Comedian.
Based on the DC Comics of the same name co-created and illustrated by Dave Gibbons, Watchmen gained a cult following after its initial release and low performance at the box office. A DVD was compiled of elements from the Watchmen universe, such as the animated adaptation of Tales of the Black Freighter, and a fictional documentary called "Under the Hood" which covered details of the first generation of superheroes. Later in 2009, a director's cut of the film was released with an additional 24 minutes of footage which also included the animated Tales of the Black Freighter. It won three Saturn Awards for "Best Fantasy Film," "Best Costume," and "Best Special Edition DVD Release." In 2019, HBO produced a limited series titled "Watchmen" that is set after the events of the graphic novel.
This stunt costume originated from Warner Bros. It consists of a felted wool brown fedora hand-marked "2x Rorschach St stretched to 7 1/4" in blue and pink in; a woven tan and white hooded mask with production-applied black splotches of paint and a zip closure on the back of the hood; a brown leather jacket hand-marked "Stunt 3" inside of an interior pocket; a wool pinstripe suit jacket hand-marked "Stunt 2" in an interior pocket and a hand-marked tag "Stunt 3 Rorschach Stunt Jkt" in blue ink; a linen off-white button-up shirt hand-marked "2" on the interior collar in black ink; a light brown wool necktie with unfinished edges; two pairs of brown leather gloves; pinstripe wool pants marked "2x Stunt" on the interior waistband; dark brown cotton socks; and brown leather boots.
Production intentionally distressed this costume to appear discolored and well-worn. This lot exhibits pulled threads and frayed fibers.
