A delightful original production cel of Daisy Duck from the Wonderful World of Disney episode "Donald's Award," originally broadcast on March 27, 1957.
The episode was first aired in black and white, then later reissued in full colour in 1962 for Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color. Although the 1957 broadcast was monochrome, the animation itself was created in colour, as this hand-painted cel demonstrates, with Daisy rendered in her distinctive pink and violet hues that echo her look from Donald's Dilemma (1947).
This cel was produced collaboratively by the renowned Disney Ink and Paint Department, where each acetate sheet was hand-inked over the original pencil drawing, and reverse-painted using Disney's proprietary cel vinyl pigments. Every element of Daisy's design, from her oversized pink bow to her confident posture, reflects the sophistication of Disney's mid-century animation style, where even television segments received the same production care as the studio's feature films.
The cel is accompanied by an original printed presentation background and retains the iconic gold Disneyland "Art Corner" label on the reverse, certifying it as an authentic studio-used cel sold at the Art Corner shop within Disneyland during the late 1950s and early 1960s. These cels were among the first examples of Disney animation art made available to the public, trimmed and mounted for sale as part of Walt Disney's vision to bring the artistry of animation to everyday collectors.
With its expressive character pose, pristine colour, and direct link to both Disney's television legacy and Disneyland's early art program, this piece represents a charming and historically important example of Daisy Duck's evolution and of Disney's pioneering approach to making animation art accessible beyond the screen.
An exceptional and beautifully preserved example of 1950s Disney artistry, radiant both in colour and history. Dimensions: 18 cm x 22.5 cm (7" x 8.75")
