A life-size animatronic Biomechanoid Captain Alexi puppet from John Bruno's sci-fi horror film Virus. Alexi (Levan Uchaneishvili) was captain of the Russian research vessel Akademik Vladislav Volkov, before an alien electrical surge from the space station Mir took over the ship and attacked the crew. This resulted in Alexi being cut up, reassembled with mechanical replacement parts, and used as an assault drone.
The animatronic puppet was created for the film by Emmy Award-winning special effects artist Steve Johnson. The film's special effects were one of the few aspects for which it garnered praise upon its release.
The animatronic puppet is life-size, and made of silicone, resin and fibreglass, assembled around a metal endoskeleton. It features realistic details, including resin teeth, eyelashes, chest hair and facial hair, and holds a resin pistol in its right hand. It is mounted on a resin display stand, and features lights and moving parts. All of the electronics remain, but the puppet's cables were cut after production for ease of transportation and display, so they no longer function. The lot comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by Steve Johnson. Dimensions (displayed): 180 cm x 100 cm x 100 cm (71" x 39.5" x 39.5")
