A Kim Novak costume design hand-painted by Edith Head from the production of Alfred Hitchcock's thriller Vertigo. This design depicts the mysterious Madeleine Elster, the dual role that Novak played in the first part of the film.

While Head's costumes helped ensure that the themes of obsession and identity were explored profoundly, they also assisted Novak herself in distinguishing her two performances and developing both characters.

Credited costume designer Edith Head rendered this piece with gouache, ink and pencil. She has signed it and left the following annotations: "flesh tone add", "no red flesh color", "double", "full gather at bottom as well", and "bunch on #3 as well". The design is displayed inside a wooden frame. Dimensions: 60 cm x 52 cm x 3 cm (23.5" x 20.5" x 1.25")
