A Ray Harryhausen hand-drawn sketch of the Allosaurus Gwangi attacking a Styracosaurus, from the production of Jim O'Connolly's fantasy Western The Valley of Gwangi. This lot comes from Harryhausen's personal collection.

The artwork is a sketch of a key drawing created during production, depicting Gwangi attacking the Styracosaurus, and a cowboy on a horse attempting to intervene. Stills from the movie show just how closely Harryhausen's sketches were followed during filming. The sketch is rendered in pencil. The paper exhibits some minor discolouration from age. Dimensions: 38 cm x 50 cm (15" x 19.75")

This lot comes from the Ray & Diana Harryhausen Foundation, a collection of items from the long and illustrious career of special effects and animation legend Ray Harryhausen. Proceeds from this auction will assist with the Foundation's future projects, including the ongoing preservation of Harryhausen's creature collection.
