W.W. Beauchamp's (Saul Rubinek) "The Duke of Death" novel cover with a lucite-encased deputy sheriff badge crew gift from the production of Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven. After reading Beauchamp's novel about "English" Bob (Richard Harris), "The Duke of Death," Sheriff "Little" Bill Daggett (Gene Hackman) accused him and Bob of lying about the Englishman's noble battles in Wichita, Kansas, misreading him as the "Duck of Death" in the meantime.
This lot consists of a custom paper novel cover printed in black-and-white on heavyweight stock by production with a vintage-style illustration of Bob and his damsel-in-distress surrounded by the bodies of the Englishman's combatants on front, as well as a gold-plated metal badge engraved "Deputy Sheriff Unforgiven" and encased in a lucite block along with Clint Eastwood's printed signature. The cover features antique-style advertisements for "Magnolia Cigars," "Jim Dalton's Saddle Shop," and "Dr. Brady's Cure for the Liquor Habit" on the reverse with unrelated filler text regarding Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid printed on the interior. The pieces were previously displayed in Room 1496 of Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino Las Vegas. The novel cover exhibits stains on front and vertical fold line and creasing down its spine, and the interior pages are presented loose, while the base of the crew gift is scuffed from handling. Dimensions: (largest) 9.5" x 7.25" (24.25 cm x 18.5 cm)
