The Book of Mirrors with Case and Book Marks from David S. Goyer’s 2009 exorcism thriller, The Unborn. The film follows Casey Beldon (Odette Yustman) in her battle to rid herself of a deadly demon tormenting her and her loved ones. It is when she is researching her spiritual ailments that she comes across the Book of Mirrors and brings in Rabbi Joseph Sendak (Gary Oldman) to help her in her battle against evil.
This hero prop was made for production using traditional methods of book binding. It features felted wood covers with an imprinted image of the Tree of Life on both front and back covers. The parchment pages feature printed images of religious texts and artwork created for production. The entire book is filled though the pages do repeat several times.
Additionally, this piece can be screen matched to the book examined by Gary Oldman when it is first presented to him. The item is a match due to imperfections, both on the cover and on a specific page Oldman flips to during the scene, pictured here.
The prop also comes in the grey/brown archival box seen when the book is presented to Casey in the library and four faux leather book marks unseen in the film. The book itself measures 13”x10”x2” (33cm x 25cm x 6cm) with the box at 14”x11”x3” (36cm x 28cm x 9cm). The book has acquired some light water damage since production causing the red covers to bleed into the edges of a few pages and the lining of the archival box. Despite this though, the book remains in great, production used condition.
