A Mycenaean Greek oval shield from Wolfgang Petersen’s 2004 historical war film Troy.

This style of shield can be seen being held by King Agamemnon's troops. Notably, during the film’s opening scenes, Achilles (Brad Pitt) is summoned to fight the giant warrior Boagrius (Nathan Jones) and later as part of the Greek armies in the spectacular mass battle scenes against the Trojans. The shield is made of wood covered by gold-painted cast rubber featuring a vertical ridged design and a fabric-covered foam backing. The front also included a large wooden accent piece running vertically down the centre. A long leather carry strap and two handles (one wooden and the other made of braided leather) are fastened to the back.

The shield displays wear from production use and age, including minor scuffs and scratches, and some of the rubber covers fringed edges have unstuck from the back of the shield. Otherwise, it remains in very good overall condition.
