Lieutenant Reuben "Payback" Fitch's (Jay Ellis) flight helmet from Joseph Kosinski's Top Gun: Maverick. Thirty years after his Top Gun graduation, Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchell (Tom Cruise) returned to Top Gun to teach a class of 12 recalled graduates to compile a group of six that was later sent on a mission to eliminate an illegal uranium bunker plant before it became operational. Payback wore his helmet during flight training with his co-pilot Lieutenant Mickey "Fanboy" Garcia (Danny Ramirez) as they tried to shoot Maverick down to avoid the losing cost of 200 push-ups.
Top Gun: Maverick was nominated for six Academy Awards® and won an award for Best Sound. The film was one of the high-grossing films of 2022 and Cruise's highest-grossing film of his career.
This helmet, given away as part of a promotional contest during the film's release, is made of grey resin coated styrofoam with black and silver-colour vinyl stripes with black foam padding, a black nylon chin strap, and metal latches on the sides to hold an oxygen mask. The left side of the helmet is rigged with a wire to connect the helmet to a communication line. This helmet does not include a visor, giving it a slightly different appearance than seen in the final cut, and it exhibits peeling vinyl and minor scuff marks.
