A clapperboard from the production of Tony Wharmby’s 1992 television movie To Be The Best.

In the third in the ‘Barbara Taylor Bradford’ trilogy, Paula O’Neill (Lindsay Wagner) is feuding with her cousins as she fights to save both her grandmother’s business and her marriage.

This clapperboard was used on the production. It is made predominantly of wood with a metal hinge on the clapper. It features the title of the production, as well as the name of director Wharmby and cameraman D. Lewiston. A strip of tape at the bottom has the date – ‘6th Nov 90’ – handwritten on it in black marker pen. The clapperboard is relatively small, meaning it was most likely used on close-ups.

The clapperboard has some wear from production use and age, including scuffing and scratching. Some of the words on the front have smudged. Considering its age however, it remains in an excellent condition.
