An RMS Titanic First Class lounge window from James Cameron's Titanic. Intricate glass windows lined the lounge areas and grand rooms of the First Class areas where Rose Dewitt Bukater (Kate Winslet) dined and dallied with the well-to-do like her mother Ruth (Frances Fisher) and fiancee Cal Hockley (Billy Zane).
The most expensive film ever made at the time of production, Titanic went on to become the then-most profitable film in history as well as winning a record 11 Academy Awards®, including Best Picture and Best Art Direction-Set Direction for art director Peter Lamont and set decorator Michael Ford. In 2017, the film was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry due to its massive impact on both American and global popular culture.
Only five windows of this scale and style are believed to have been made for the film, with this window recovered directly from the Rosarito, Mexico set after production. It features two glass panels - including one with a bevelled hexagonal design - set between a custom wooden frame painted brown. The window exhibits minor scratching on the glass, scuffing to the wood, missing facades on the top and bottom left corners, and a missing section of the left corner base from production use and age.
