A full-size lifeboat from James Cameron's Titanic. As the titular vessel began to sink after striking an iceberg, passengers rushed to lifeboats to escape from the doomed ocean liner.
Titanic won many awards and accolades, including 11 Academy Awards® out of 14 nominations, tying the record of wins set by Ben-Hur (1959) and the record of nominations set by All About Eve (1950). Amongst Titanic's 11 Academy Awards® were Best Picture, Best Director, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Visual Effects.
This lifeboat is made of fiberglass shaped to resemble wood. It is painted white with a brown trim and has rope strung through loops around the sides. A placard on one side reads "Liverpool" in backwards black text, the other side has a small round placard reading "30'-0 / 9'-6x4'-6 / 64P," both front sides feature a metal White Star Line red flag logo, and both sides of the bow and stern all feature the number "11. The backwards text is due to large sequences of Titanic being shot "mirror-image" style, with costumes and props built in reverse and the footage flipped for the final film, which allowed production to only build half of the ship set and use it to represent both the port and starboard sides of the vessel. The inside of the boat is brown and contains wooden planks and supports. The lifeboat is attached to a wood and metal support frame. It exhibits cracks in the fiberglass, paint chipping, yellow and brown staining on the bottom hull, grime throughout the interior, metal attachments rusting, as well as screw holes and staining where additional White Star flag logos and Liverpool plaques were previously removed . Dimensions: 299.25" x 109.5" x 72.25" (760.25 cm x 278.25 cm x 183.75 cm)
