Thor's (Chris Hemsworth) Mjolnir hammer from the production of Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok. Thor used his signature hammer weapon, Mjolnir, to defeat the fire demon Surtur (Clancy Brown) at the beginning of the film, and later prepared to use it against the freed goddess of death, Hela (Cate Blanchett), until Hela destroyed the hammer.
The fifth film in Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Thor: Ragnarok was the highest grossing film of the Thor series and received 50 nominations across multiple awards, including the prestigious Critics Choice® and Hugo Awards®, among others. The film also marked Mjolnir's last appearance until it was restored in Thor: Love and Thunder and wielded by Mighty Thor (Natalie Portman). Weighted hammers such as this were made to give a more natural resistance that allowed the principal actor to tense his muscles naturally.
This weighted hammer was made for production, but it remains unknown if it was ever used for filming. It originates from a crew member. Cast from resin, the hammer features intricate Nordic knot designs and runes engraved on its head and pommel. The head is painted to resemble metal with matching paint detailing throughout the handle and pommel. Production intentionally distressed this Mjolnir to appear aged and used.
A leather wrist strap was added post-production to complete the hammer. This lot exhibits mild chipped paint on the edges of the hammer's head and a faded white discoloration on the wrist strap. Dimensions: 9.5" x 6" x 9.5" (24.25 cm x 15.25 cm x 9.5 cm)
Estimate: $15,000 - 30,000
