James Wright's (River Phoenix) costume from Peter Bogdanovich's romantic drama The Thing Called Love. Wright wore his costume throughout the film, notably during a road trip with Miranda (Samantha Mathis) to Graceland, where he proposed to her in a convenience store using a toy ring from a candy dispenser.

The costume comprises a custom black-and-grey plaid woollen coat; a custom black crÃªpe Western-style shirt; a pair of black corduroy Levi's® trousers (size "W34 L34"); a black leather belt; a black felt Resistol fedora (size "7-â…›"); and a pair of black leather Nocona cowboy boots. The trousers feature the label "James" handwritten on the right interior pocket; the hat has "#2" handwritten on an interior label; and each boot has "#2" handwritten on its interior. Accompanying the costume is a still of Phoenix dressed in costume on set and a Paramount certificate of authenticity. Dried glue is present on the back of the belt buckle, and the photograph exhibits surface damage and edge wear.
