An original production cel with wax overlay and background from the animated series The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends adapted from the stories by Beatrix Potter. This beautifully composed setup is from the episode The Tale of Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny.
This original hand-painted production cel setup depicts a full figure, Peter Rabbit, in his signature blue jacket in a moment of pause, glancing outward with a wide, open eye and an expression that gently invites warmth and emotional connection. A delicate wax-rendered overlay creates the soft, textured effect of fur and brings Potter's characters to life. This process was a unique feature of TVC London studio, which employed the technique in this and other animated features (such as The Snowman).
The cel has been paired with a non-matching, hand-painted production background rendered in the watercolour style that closely echoes Potter's original illustrations. Numbered with scene and frame details for photography, this charming setup is not only a standout moment from the production, but a rare example of the studio's bespoke approach to cel animation.
