A superb key master setup comprising two matching hand-painted production cels of Pigling Bland and Peter Thomas Piperson, set against the original production background as seen in the featurette at approximately 12:29. This complete setup captures a pivotal moment from The Tale of Pigling Bland, when the polite young pig finds himself reluctantly staying the night at the farmhouse of the gruff and suspicious farmer Piperson.
Produced by TVC London, the same renowned studio behind The Snowman and When the Wind Blows, The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends remains one of the most beautifully crafted British animated adaptations of Beatrix Potter's stories. Each episode was treated as a short film, realised with painterly backgrounds, delicate lighting, and a commitment to traditional craftsmanship that placed the series among the finest children's productions of its era.
This piece features an entirely hand-painted background, signed by Damien Rochford, the background artist for this scene and for many of the World of Peter Rabbit and Friends tales. The hearth glows warmly, offset by the darker woodgrain interior, creating a perfect contrast for the cel layers above. Both Pigling and Piperson are beautifully detailed, with visible surface rendering that gives texture and warmth to their expressions and movements.
Original World of Peter Rabbit and Friends artwork is exceptionally rare, particularly key master setups in this condition. This piece embodies the charm, humour, and quintessentially British sensibility of Potter's tales, brought to life through TVC's impeccable artistry and animation that continues to be cherished around the world. Dimensions (cel on background): 33 cm x 41.75 cm (13" x 16.5")
