Final artwork hand-painted by renowned artist and photographer Mike Francis for a UK Quad poster from the promotion of James Cameron's The Terminator.
While not Schwarzenegger's first big box-office hit (Conan the Barbarian was released two years prior), The Terminator made him a global star, and he has subsequently appeared as a Terminator five more times in feature films. It was also director Cameron's first major hit and only his second movie, before he went on to become the second-highest-grossing film director of all time.
Francis produced artwork for more than 60 film posters in a long and illustrious career, which also encompassed book covers and gallery exhibitions. This poster artwork differs significantly from the US posters, which featured a photograph of Schwarzenegger as opposed to hand-painted art. It features The Terminator (Schwarzenegger) with his classic leather-jacket look, holding a large pistol and with half of his metal endoskeleton exposed.
The artwork is rendered in oil paint directly onto a mount board. While the edges of the artwork itself do not align directly with the board's, it is rendered square with The Terminator straight, an alignment which matches the final printed UK Quad.
Also included is a folder containing multiple text elements printed on paper and used by Francis during production of the final poster, such as segments featuring the film's title, Schwarzenegger's name and the tag line, as well as a sheet of tracing paper with various notes about colors for the poster. This is a rare opportunity to own a unique piece of sci-fi history. Dimensions: 22.75" x 26.75" (58 cm x 68 cm)
