Voiced by Tom Kenny, who also brought life to SpongeBob SquarePants, the Mayor remains one of the most beloved supporting characters in The Powerpuff Girls. His distinctive voice, exaggerated expressions, and endearing incompetence made him an instant fan favourite.
Whenever trouble occurs in Townsville, it's the Mayor who calls for the Powerpuff Girls. Here, we see him in distress, tied to his chair in a moment of classic comic chaos. The setup is composed of three separate cels, one for the Mayor, one for his moustache, and another for his eyeball, each photographed in sequence over the same hand-painted background to create the final on-screen image.
The background itself is entirely original, painted in gouache in the minimalist and stylised aesthetic that defines the series. It perfectly complements the angular design and playful exaggeration of the character art.
What makes this piece exceptional is the inclusion of the original camera layout drawing, marked with red frame lines and directional notes.
