This is an original Zando Zan head appliance created for the production of the 1984 Science Fiction film The Last Starfighter. The head can be seen in the film as the Zando Zan interstellar hitbeast comes to Alex’s (Lance Guest) trailer park to kill him, in order to stop him from fighting in the interstellar war. This piece was used for shots of Centauri (Robert Preston) and the Zando Zan’s lasergun fight in the trailer park. The heavily detailed head is made out of foam latex with a foam center and features large bulbous shapes on each side where the creature’s eyes are located, to the left and right of the open mouth. The orange colored head sits on a black wooden display stand and measures approximately 10” x 14” (25cm x 36cm) altogether. Due to age and production use, the piece has some cracking throughout, most prevalent at the very bottom, as the foam has dried over time. However, the head remains in overall fair condition.
