An SFX blood tester used in the production of the sci-fi action adventure film The Hunger Games. Selected to fight in the annual Hunger Games, hunter Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and baker Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) must join forces if they are to defeat their opponents and make it out alive. In the film's opening, Katniss Everdeen has her blood scanned in order to get into the Reaping, or drawing as to who will compete in the games.
This scanner is made from cast resin, is painted silver, and has reflective purple stickers applied for detail. Two buttons are present on the side of the device. When one button is pressed, laser light is emitted from the end of the scanner. A pressing of the second button illuminates the other end of the scanner to read 'Everdeen, Katniss 16 Y/O'. These two effects combine to create the illusion of a machine that can identify someone using a blood sample.
This device shows some wear due to production use. In particular, the end reading Katniss' name is removable and is held to the device using a piece of electrical tape that is painted silver, likely an on-set repair. This piece of tape also covers a portion of this endcap that has been cracked. Overall, this device remains in good production used condition.
