British Quad (40" x 30")
Very Fine- on Linen; Artwork by Clement Hurel
MGM, 1967
Released in the UK as "Dance of the Vampires," this poster from director Roman Polanski's comedic spoof of the Hammer Horror films of the 1950s and 1960s was folded and displayed general fold wear, light separation at the ends of various folds, corner wear, and some wear on the right side of the white field. It has been professionally linen-backed, with expert touch-ups to these areas, including repairs to the corners, sporadic fold and crossfold touch-ups, and touch-up to two areas in the white field. This quad rarely appears for sale, and this example presents beautifully.
"The Fearless Vampire Killers, or Pardon Me, But Your Teeth Are in My Neck" (commonly shortened to "The Fearless Vampire Killers" and originally released in the UK as "Dance of the Vampires"), is a 1967 comedy-horror film directed by Roman Polanski. The film stars Polanski alongside his future wife, Sharon Tate, as well as Jack MacGowran, Alfie Bass, and Ferdy Mayne. In the story, a timid vampire hunter (Jack MacGowran) and his bumbling assistant (Roman Polanski) travel to a remote mountain village, where they find clear evidence of vampirism. The assistant becomes infatuated with Sarah (Sharon Tate), who is the tavern keeper's daughter, and she is soon abducted. Determined to rescue her, they confront the undead Count in his castle. The story was later adapted into the musical Dance of the Vampires, which was first staged in German as Tanz der Vampire.
