Eli's (Denzel Washington) Complete Costume worn in the Hughes brother's post apocalyptic drama, The Book of Eli. In the film, a lone wanderer travels west across a war ravaged landscape in order to bring a sacred book to safety. This distressed costume can be seen worn by Eli throughout the film. Included in this set are Eli's beanie cap, sunglasses, shawl, jacket, sweater, t-shirt, pants, belt, boots, backpack, and a sheath for Eli's knife.
Distressed by the production to appear as though it has endured 30 years of wear in an apocalyptic setting, this complete costume included pieces acquired by Eli during his journey. The coat is a modified M-51 Fishtail parka and is inspired by the 1951 Army issue garment. The parka shows stage blood stains on the right pocket and along the left arm. There are also holes cut into the back from various wounds. Worn under this is a brown sweater manufactured by RedHead (size XL) and an off-white Hanes t-shirt (size L). Worn around the legs are a pair of Carhartt jeans which show "35 F" written on the inseam with black marker. The jeans show fraying around the waist and ankles, along with loose threads throughout. Eli's shoes are simple black Doc Marten boots and are made from leather (size 11 US). Eli's accessories include a soft cotton beanie cap with the label removed, Oakley Inmate sunglasses with distressed wrapping around the temples, brown Thinsulate Insulation gloves, Old Navy brown leather belt (size XL), unmarked brown leather sheath and carrying strap, faded white and black shawl with tassels, and an Oakley backpack that has been modified with numerous leather cords and a brown leather base stitched to the bottom of the pack.
This lot displays significant production distressing on all of the aforementioned articles as Eli traverses the former United States 30 years after nuclear war. Despite the production wear, this set remains intact and in good production worn condition.
