A full-size Deepcore drilling platform cowling with a crinoid sea fan from James Cameron's The Abyss. Platform designer Dr. Lindsey Brigman (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) traveled with the SEAL team to the experimental underwater drilling platform, Deepcore, after the US government sent the team to investigate and salvage the Ohio-class submarine that sank after its encounter with an unidentified submerged object.
This lot originates from a crew member. It consists of one full-size fiberglass hatch cowling of the style seen on the interior ceiling of the module set, as well as one "crinoid" sea fan plant made of latex and plaster. The cowling is painted gray, while the plant features fern-like protrusions and a weighted plaster base designed to allow it and others to be sprinkled around the underwater seafloor set, accurately representing some of the rare lifeforms that live at abyssal depths. This lot exhibits chipped paint, discoloration, cracks in the fiberglass and a build-up of grime. Dimensions: (largest) 60.5" x 60.5" x 9" (153.75 cm x 153.75 cm x 23 cm)
