The Terminator's (Arnold Schwarzenegger) costume from James Cameron's Terminator 2: Judgment Day. The Terminator wore his signature costume throughout the film, from the opening scenes in which he stole the ensemble from a disgruntled biker through the action-packed fight sequences where he battled the seemingly invincible T-1000 (Robert Patrick), to his final farewell to John (Edward Furlong) and Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) giving one final thumbs-up as he sank into molten steel as he ultimately sacrificed himself to prevent Judgment Day. His costume became distressed during the encounter with the S.W.A.T. team at Cyberdyne Systems.
Created by costume designer Marlene Stewart, who worked on such films as JFK, True Lies, The X-Files and Tropic Thunder, this costume became an iconic piece of pop culture by bringing the Terminator into the popular '90s grunge aesthetic. This costume is comprised of a black leather jacket with a self-belt, three zipped pockets, one popper pocket on the front, and side flaps with metal grommets; a black Hanes Beefy-T T-shirt (size XL); and a pair of stretchy black faux-leather pants. The interior lining was removed and what remains has been set up with removable fastening strips so as to place squibs and has black elastic bands between the lining and shell. Production intentionally distressed this costume. It exhibits delamination and flaking, corrosion to the buttons, buckles and zips across the jacket, and snagged threads.
Estimate: $30,000 - 60,000
