The Terminator's (Arnold Schwarzenegger) distressed ensemble from James Cameron's Terminator 2: Judgment Day. After arriving in 1995, the Terminator stole a disgruntled biker's ensemble, including a leather jacket. The cyborg continued to wear it throughout the film as he protected the young John Connor (Edward Furlong) from the relentless T-1000 (Robert Patrick).
Created by costume designer Marlene Stewart, who worked on such films as JFK, True Lies, The X-Files and Tropic Thunder, the T-800's leather ensemble became an iconic piece of pop culture, bringing the franchise into the popular '90s grunge aesthetic. Terminator 2 was highly influential in setting a new standard for both sequels and action films. It remains Schwarzenegger's highest-grossing film and was nominated for six Academy Awards®, of which it won four, including Best Makeup and Best Visual Effects.
This ensemble consists of a black leather jacket with a self-belt, three zipped pockets, one popper pocket on the front, and side flaps with metal grommets, a leather belt, and a pair of stretchy black faux leather pants. The interior of one zippered pocket is hand-marked "1. C. 9" in white. Part of the jacket's interior lining was removed completely and what remains has been secured with self-fastening strips to allow access for the placement of squibs. Production intentionally distressed this jacket with scuffs, tears and grime, giving it a battle-worn appearance. This lot exhibits delamination and flaking, corrosion to the buttons, buckles and zips across the jacket, and snagged threads.
Estimate: $60,000 - 120,000
