A set of Raphael costume components from the original 1990s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trilogy. Jim Henson's Creature Shop created the groundbreaking turtle costumes for Steve Barron's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and its sequel, The Secret of the Ooze, while Eric Allard's All Effects Company took over the creation of the suits for Stuart Gillard's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, giving them a unique appearance that differed slightly from the first two films'.
This lot consists of a Raphael turtle mask with green foam latex skin and a red cotton fabric mask marked "H.P. - R - 1" (believed to be for TMNT II and III martial arts stunt performer Hosung Pak) built around a fiberglass skull with metal components in the jaw, resin teeth, and resin eyes; a set of green latex eyelids; a pink foam latex tongue with a black mesh marked "L-2;" a brown leather belt hand-marked "McKeown" (for TMNT III stunt performer David McKeown); two green foam latex legs with painted brown toenails and red nylon straps, including a right Henson-built leg marked "RS11" and a left All Effects-build leg marked "Left"; one green foam latex right arm piece with an illegible marking; one green foam latex thigh piece marked "H," "Raph," and "L2 T1," and a small assortment of broken off foam pieces. The foam latex throughout the components has dried and cracked with age, much of it crumbling away around the mask and tearing elsewhere.
Contains mechanical components; see notice in the Buyer's Guide.
