Superman's (Christopher Reeves) cape from Richard Lester's Superman III. Superman wore his cape throughout the film before he wore his darker-coloured cape after he was exposed to synthetic Kryptonite by Gus Gorman (Richard Pryor) where he was corrupted and turned into "evil" Superman.

Although numerous acclaimed actors portrayed the "Man of Steel" on both the big and small screen since Kirk Alyn's first live action appearance in 1948, for many fans, Christopher Reeve was the definitive embodiment of Jerry Siegel's and Joe Shuster's comic creation. Reeve portrayed the character across four films between 1978 - 1987, the first of which was nominated for three Academy Awards® and won a Special Achievement Oscar® for Best Visual Effects. Reeve was the recipient of the BAFTA® Award for Most Promising Newcomer to Leading Film Roles for his performance. Although Reeve passed away in 2004 at age 52, his legacy as the Son of Krypton lives on.

The Superman cape was originally designed by Academy Award® winning costume designer Yvonne Blake. Her design was based on the original design of the cape featured in Siegel's and Shuster's comic. The knee-length cape is made of red wool and attached to Reeves' tunic via snap buttons on the shoulders. Cotton padding along the shoulders' interior allowed the cape to sit properly on Reeves' shoulders. The back of the cape features a yellow-stitched "S" logo with black threading. The inside of the cape features a stitched label reading "C. Reeve/ Col/ Normal/ No.2/ Walking/ (1982)" and is marked "Walking." "Walking" and "flying" versions of the cape were designed with the "flying" capes featuring inserts for metal rods to create the flying effect. This cape exhibits stains in the middle back and along the bottom.
