"Having been born in 1970, I was one of the lucky ones who grew up with the original trilogy," Ehrlich says. "As a young artist, Star Wars sparked my creativity and imagination like nothing else ever had with its incredible designs, characters, and story. Some 40 years later, it continues to be a source of inspiration. My idea for the sculpture was to create a physical tribute to my memories by using actual items that were produced for the original trilogy. All the items were taken from my personal collection of memorabilia, magazines, newspaper ads, toy inserts, books, sheet music and more. Each tile is meant to remind the viewer of a moment from the movies. Finally, I created tiles featuring quotes that reference the Death Star. It may be gone, but it will never be forgotten." Memories of the Death Star is accompanied by a colorful booklet that illustrates the sources of the "tiles."
