Our expert's notes
From the start of the project, the artist says he kept seeing R2-D2's dome in the Death Star's geometry. Following George Lucas' "used universe" aesthetic, he added Artoo's scuffs, scratches, grit, grime, grease and sand, which gets everywhere in the dunes of Tatooine. Even Vanderstelt's signature show signs of wear!
