Darth Maul's (Ray Park) fighting lightsaber component from George Lucas' Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Darth Maul masterfully wielded his lightsaber during the final battle sequence in Theed Palace, where the Sith apprentice fought Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson) and Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor).
This particular lightsaber was produced for fighting sequences, but only comprises one half of Maul's signature double-bladed weapon. The hilt is cast in resin and finished in silver-coloured paintIt features steel metal blade emitter plates at the top of the hilt and a static raised red activator button, which is unusual for a fighting lightsaber, as most typically just had their buttons painted on. The short blade is constructed from a metal "all thread" tube featuring four drilled holes. It is coated with fluorescent orange paint, to represent Maul's distinctive plasma blade, and shrink-wrapped. A threaded metal rod runs through the blade and the interior of the hilt, and protrudes out of the end. This would have been used to connect the other half of the double-bladed lightsaber.
It is possible that this half saber was made for the sequence in which Obi-Wan Kenobi slices Darth Maul's lightsaber in half due to the smooth finishing on the protruding threaded rod and the nature of it's hero detailing. The lot exhibits chips to the silver paint, and an incision has been made halfway along the blade.
