A blocking shot miniature X-wing used during the production of Richard Marquand's Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. The technicians at Industrial Light and Magic used this detailed model to help plan the film's intricate special effects sequences. Early on in the production process, simple models like this were used to block out shots and produce "videomatics" - an early form of pre-visualisation.
The model is constructed from a commercially available plastic kit and is detailed as Red Five, the fighter piloted by Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). It is presented on a display stand simulating the X-wing in flight. Acquired from the collection of visual effects artist Richard Edlund, it has been intentionally distressed to appear battle-scarred, and the display base has some minor chips to the corners. Dimensions (displayed): 19 cm x 23 cm x 19 cm (71/2" x 9" x 71/2")
Estimate: £15,000 - 20,000 M
