Tripod Smaller Walker Concept Sketch

Design sketch for an alternate tripod "chicken walker" with a scout standing patrol outside the vehicle. This design is noteworthy for its use of a tripod walking setup. The armor plates and cannons evoke the World War I-style aesthetic of Star Wars. The piece is signed and dated by Nilo Rodis-Jamero.

The AT-ST Chicken Walker appeared in both The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. It was envisioned as a smaller, faster version of the four-legged walker. In this series of alternate chicken walker sketches, Rodis-Jamero considers various alternate takes that could have been utilized for the design.

About The Artist:
Nilo Rodis-Jamero designed cars and tanks prior to being hired by George Lucas for The Empire Strikes Back. As assistant VFX art director, Rodis-Jamero contributed to numerous designs for the film. On Return of the Jedi, Rodis-Jamero did many early concept designs alongside Ralph McQuarrie and Joe Johnston before focusing on costume design (credited costume designer on the film) and visual effects art direction.
He worked as an art director at ILM throughout the 1980s before transitioning into producing and other areas of the entertainment industry. “I haven’t entered this world since I worked on the films. Pen and paper sketches are such a blast—a tightrope walk without the net. Ideas either work or do not, there are no undo or delete keys,” he says.
