A Death Star docking trench illustration hand-drawn by Ralph McQuarrie for the production of George Lucas' Star Wars: A New Hope. McQuarrie worked on the film in multiple capacities, including the creation of several matte paintings seen in the final cut of the film.

This line art sketch was the start of a matte painting used for the scene in which the Death Star pulled the Millennium Falcon into its docking trench with its tractor beam.

McQuarrie frequently used a drawing on vellum as the first step in his painting process, and as such, this piece is rendered in graphite on vellum mounted to artboard. It was also featured in the Abrams publication Star Wars Art: Ralph McQuarrie by Abrams. The vellum exhibits small tears throughout. Dimensions: 89 cm x 43.75 cm (35" x 17.25")
