An R3-series astromech droid dome from George Lucas' Star Wars: A New Hope. Though very similar in appearance to R2-series droids, most R3-series were distinguished by their unique transparent domes, through which their internal mechanisms were visible. One such droid was passed by Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) in the corridor aboard the Death Star when Kenobi was on his way to the tractor beam controls.
Originally titled simply Star Wars and later given the subtitle A New Hope, the original 1977 film was a pop culture phenomenon and is widely considered one of the most influential films ever made. The film launched the massive Star Wars franchise, which is still going strong nearly 50 years later.
This dome is made of clear acrylic and features black, white, and gold-colour linework in the form of decals applied throughout. It exhibits scratching and scuffing throughout the acrylic, as well as tears and lifting in the decals. Dimensions: 44.5 cm x 44.5 cm x 21.75 cm (17.5" x 17.5" x 8.5")
