Hand-drawn cantina alien technical diagram by Phil Tippett from George Lucas’ sci-fi classic Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. After principal photography, George Lucas decided to reshoot the cantina scene with more aliens, so Phil Tippett joined Rick Baker’s makeup department to help them make additional creatures for the scene. These are concept sketches Tippett created of a creature that was ultimately unused.

This sketchbook page features sketches of a grasshopper-like species drawn with graphite pencil that show the creature in profile and diagram the interior of the stop-motion creature. The opposite side of the paper features a sketch of a figure riding a lizard-like creature.

The paper shows minor wear due to age and production use but remains in very good condition. Dimensions: 12” x 9” (30.5 cm x 22.5 cm)
