A jackal mastiff underskull made for Nicholas Meyer’s 1991 sci-fi film Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. In the film, Kirk (William Shatner) and McCoy (DeForest Kelley) are accused of assassinating the Klingon High Chancellor and must rely on the Enterprise crew to thwart the conspiracy in their absence. This underskull was made for the Klingon guard dogs seen on the frozen asteroid Rura Penthe, where Kirk and McCoy are sentenced to life imprisonment. Made of fiberglass, the skull comes in two parts with a top and bottom jaw. The piece has been painted around the teeth which were visible to the camera, and the remainder of the skull shows residue where skin was formerly attached. The skull includes original mechanical components which once operated the jaws during the production. This lot shows some wear to the fiberglass due to production use and age, and the skin was removed after the production, but the piece remains in otherwise fair used condition.
