A light-up Starfleet assault phaser from Nicholas Meyer's Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Assassins used Starfleet assault phasers to frame James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and Leonard "Bones" McCoy (DeForest Kelley) for the murder of Klingon Chancellor Gorkon (David Warner).
First introduced in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, phasers of this style proved popular with viewers for their more dangerous and deadly appearance than previously seen Starfleet weaponry. The Undiscovered Country ultimately earned two Academy Award® nominations and remains to date the only Star Trek film to receive a Saturn Award® for Best Science Fiction Film.
This phaser originates from the Azarian Collection. It is constructed from cast resin with a slotted barrel, a tooled aluminum extension at the back of the barrel, and a textured handgrip inset at bottom with a Starfleet chip engraved "NCC-1701 Enterprise 647." The phaser also features a sliding vented hood designed to conceal electronic wiring and a 9V battery which illuminate LEDs inset at the front and top when the trigger is depressed.
Following production, the phaser's lower grip extension and muzzle came loose, exposing the LED at front. Also included are an original pewter muzzle cast from the production and a metal alloy muzzle replica added to complete the phaser for display, as well as a loose screw from the body. This phaser is the most commonly replicated style from the Star Trek franchise. However, this phaser features the hallmark attributes that are not seen within replicas. The phaser exhibits chipping and fractures in the top and bottom of the grip, as well as scratching and paint flaking throughout from production use. Dimensions: 9.75" x 8" x 2" (25 cm x 20.5 cm x 5 cm)
