A set of four EVA Thruster Suit pattern pieces from Robert Wise's Star Trek: The Motion Picture. When Spock (Leonard Nimoy) left the Enterprise alone and unauthorized to mind-meld with the V'Ger entity, Admiral Kirk (William Shatner) subsequently donned his own thruster suit and ventured outside to retrieve him.
The suits were designed by Robert Fletcher, who was tasked by Wise with reimagining the franchise's wardrobe for the big screen, creating costumes that looked "science fact" rather than science fiction. Fletcher's thruster suit design proved so influential that it was carried forward into Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and became a touchstone for EVA design throughout the franchise.
This set of patterns originates from Planet Hollywood. It consists of four butcher paper pattern pieces - a full-body suit torso pattern with integrated shoulder and sleeve sections, two leg panels, and one circular glove pattern - each bearing the angular geometric stitching lines characteristic of Fletcher's thruster suit design. Some pieces show intentional production cutting. The patterns exhibit wear and handling consistent with working costume shop use, including needle holes.
