Spock's (Leonard Nimoy) screen-matched Vulcan Kolinahr tabard from Robert Wise's Star Trek: The Motion Picture with a replica robe. Spock wore his tabard at the beginning of the film as he took part in the Vulcan ritual of Kolinahr, in which all remaining emotions are purged. The tabard screen-matches through the intentional distress and markings all across the chest.
Spock is one of the most iconic characters in science-fiction, his emotional half-human side and his coldly logical half-Vulcan constantly at odds throughout the Star Trek films and TV shows. He was a valued advisor and confidant to James T. Kirk and he became one of the most important and respected people in the Federation.
The costume was designed by Robert Fletcher and constructed by Ted Shell Designs. The long tabard has been intentionally distressed all over to appear well-worn. It features a variety of geometric shapes on the front and back as decoration. There is a Western Costume Co. label in the neckline which has "Spock-Nimoy" handwritten in red ink. This label was added post-production for archival purposes. The costume is completed by a replica robe, modelled after the one worn by Spock with the tabard. The tabard underwent significant sympathetic restoration to recreate missing surface details. It exhibits some fraying around its edges and small holes from wear and age.
Additional Provenance: Letter of Authenticity from Ted Shell, who states that two such costumes were made and the other one was dismantled and used to make a costume for an extra in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, making this costume unique.
