A light-up replica of a model miniature of Admiral James T. Kirk's thruster EVA suit cast from the original model miniature from the production of Robert Wise's Star Trek: The Motion Picture. When Spock (Leonard Nimoy) left the Enterprise alone and unauthorized to mind-meld with the V'Ger entity, Admiral Kirk (William Shatner) subsequently donned his own thruster suit and ventured outside to retrieve him.
The crew's EVA suits were designed by Robert Fletcher, who was tasked by Wise with reimagining the franchise's wardrobe for the big screen, creating costumes that looked "science fact" rather than science-fiction. Fletcher's thruster suit design proved so influential that it was carried forward into Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and became a touchstone for EVA design throughout the franchise.
Cast from the original production model, this cast resin fiberglass model of Admiral Kirk in his thruster EVA suit features an attached, felt-lined plexiglass helmet. The helmet is inset with LED lights designed to illuminate when connected to a power outlet, while the arms are able to move up and down. This replica comes mounted on a metal rod secured to a painted wooden base where the electronics for the lights protrude. This lot underwent sympathetic repair to restore the lights' functionality.
