A collection of behind-the-scenes photos, hand-marked stills, and promotional photos from the production of Robert Wise's Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The photos in this archive showcase a number of key cast members, sets, and sequences, including Admiral James T. Kirk (William Shatner) with Spock (Leonard Nimoy) and Lieutenant Ilia (Persis Khambatta) aboard both the newly-retrofitted USS Enterprise and the sentient alien ship V'Ger, the exterior of an Enterprise model miniature, and the rocky surface of Vulcan, among others.
This lot contains one 8" x 10" (20.5 cm x 25 cm) BTS photo hand-marked "29A" on the back, five BTS photos of the Vulcan rocks ranging in sizes from 4" x 5" (10.25 cm x 12.75 cm) to 14" x 20" (35.5 cm x 51 cm), three 8" x 10" (20.5 cm x 25 cm) cast promotional photos, two contact sheets attributed to production still photographer Mel Traxel, 16 8" x 10" (20.5 cm x 25 cm) stills with six hand-marked on the back with corresponding scene numbers such as "5243 - 25," "5073 - 34," "370A - 7" or note such as "Roto 4," three 9.5" x 21" (24.25 cm x 53.5 cm) matte stills, one 20" x 16" (51 cm x 40.75 cm) matte still hand-marked "XM 368J-2" on the back, eight 9" x 22" (23 cm x 56 cm) matte stills hand-marked with scene information like "X 369A-2," one 11" x 20" (28 cm x 51 cm) still photograph with hand-drawn sketch on back, one 9.5" x 21" (24.25 cm x 53.5 cm) photograph with hand-drawn sketching on the front attached to a hand-marked "Y-8" acetate sheet mapping camera composition, 1 4" x 5" (10.25 cm x 12.75 cm) transparency of the Enterprise, three hand-cut glossy stills of varying sizes and one still photograph mounted to board. Also included is a manila filing folder hand-marked "Decker." Several photos exhibit discoloration, a buildup of grime, and creasing, and additionally, eight photographs exhibit folding from storage and should be handled with caution.
